ALEXIS RUIZ (Guatemala/Norway)

We welcome NEW artist to Oslo Caribbean Festival this year, Alexis Ruiz.  A renowned dancer and multi-instrumentalist from Guatemala. Born with a passion for music and dance, he began his teaching career at his mother’s dance academy at just 12 years old.  In 2002, Mr. Albert Torres, a highly respected figure in the dance world,  awarded Alexis with a prestigious accolade at the annual west coast salsa Congress for his contribution to the development and promotion of Latin dance in Japan. It was at this event that Mr. Torres gave him the nickname “Alexistyle,” due to his unique dance style.  

His teaching method and technique have left a mark on different countries where he has lived, including Guatemala, Japan, England, Sweden, and Germany. His international career has expanded to 5 continents. Currently residing in Norway, Alexis is the founder of A-custica dance school, the only school in the country that specializes in mambo and musicality for dancers. He is also the  founder of Allure mambo dance company, the most representative Latin dance group in Norway founded in  2015. His choreographies are worldwide known for their uniqueness and musical interpretation.  

His knowledge of the history of Latin dance and his skills of music combined with his  unique dance style, pedagogy, charisma, and sense of humor makes him a one-of-a-kind artist who  captivates and inspires people around the world.
